Hotel Information for Out-of-Town Guests of the 2015 Simply Slavic Festival

Although plans are now in the works for a new hotel in downtown Youngstown, there are presently no facilities available within walking distance of the festival site. However, multiple suburban hotel districts are located within minutes from the festival area, easily accessible from major highways into the Youngstown metropolitan region. Travelers are encouraged to visit the Mahoning County Convention & Visitors Bureau's list of nearby hotels, motels, and inns in the Greater Youngstown and Mahoning County area, which includes Austintown, Boardman, Poland, and Canfield.

If arriving from the west (Cleveland/Akron), the OH 46/I-80 Hotel District has access nearby to the Ohio Turnpike and OH 11. From this hotel district, follow I-80 East to I-680 Youngstown, exit at Market Street Northbound and follow the Market Street Bridge into Downtown Youngstown. The Simply Slavic festival is located just a few blocks away on East Federal Street, with free parking available at the Covelli Center. Other parking is available throughout the city in any legal parking spaces and designated areas.

Slavic Bakers Invited to Show Their Skills

2014 Simply Slavic Baking Contest Winners

Growing up Slavic in the Mahoning Valley meant slices of kolachi or homemade chrusciki in your lunch box instead of Twinkies and Oreos. The organizers of Simply Slavic want to encourage the perpetuation of those recipes and traditions.

One way they do so is the Annual Slavic Baking Competition to be held at the 5th Annual Simply Slavic Festival on Saturday, June 20th 2015. Organizers are inviting the region’s best amateur bakers to put their favorite recipe to the test!

Simply Slavic in the Community

On Saturday, June 20, 2015 from Noon-Midnight on Federal Plaza East, Simply Slavic will continue its mission of educating area residents about the history of the Slavic people that helped build the Mahoning Valley. But people don’t have to wait until then to start learning!

Simply Slavic in the Schools

Thanks to the generous donation of YSU’s Slavic Student Association, festival organizers are able to again offer two preview programs!
